Every stitch a memory lingers
From clumsy tiny fingers pricked
Over and over leaving small
Droplets of history.
Exquisite needlework faded
With age, but still so splendid like
That young girl that fashioned it.
So many years ago
Fingers now misshapen
Lovingly caressing the fabric
The last few stitches added
Slowly and painfully finishing the task.
A cloth of delicate stitches
Interwoven with love and pain
Laughter and sadness forever
Fused on a small piece of cloth
It drifts to the floor and lies unnoticed,
in the dust and cobwebs of time.
Tale of a lifetime of joys and sorrows,
Birth and death joined without end.
