Oh, such sweet pain does prickle against my breast,
shooting exquisite slivers of pure delight.
How can that be?
How can I, in the twilight of my years,
still feel so sharply the memory of that
first love? The clarity of those feelings
still comes to me.
Was it joy or pain? Both I think.
Fear of losing him, joy at finding him.
Discoveries of finding the sun
shining for us each and every day.
Knowing with absolute certainty that
no one has ever felt love like this before.
Youth's total enchantment with itself.
Winding around our every move.
Remembering those days so long ago,
those memories shining through time
like it has done for eons.
Those brand new glorious days.
The years lined up like silver pennies
The music of our youth.
weaving into the dance of life.
And the waltz goes on.
